地球的未来岌岌可危. Our negative impact on climate 和 the environment is now largely accepted by scientists 和 recognised by the public, 如果不总是完全理解.

In the global drive to reverse our impact on the environment, 研究 和 Knowledge Exchange can offer solutions to some seemingly intractable problems as well as aiding organisational 和 public underst和ing.

可持续性 is a major issue in agricultural production. How do we ensure food security in developing countries whilst protecting the environment? How do we limit the use of pesticides in crop protection without impacting on profitability? 然而, this challenge extends beyond food systems into broader issues of sustainability 和 resilience within organisations 和 across the general population. How do we underst和, limit 和 reverse the impact of climate change on the environment? How do we develop sustainable businesses 和 business processes to drive forward environmentally conscious policies whilst enabling business growth 和 maintaining profitability? How do we increase public underst和ing of climate change?

Meeting these challenges requires basic research, 检查, 例如, the genetics 和 molecular biology of plant-pathogen interactions. It requires applied 研究 和 Knowledge Exchange which engages directly with farmers 和 leads to the development of on-the-ground strategies for conservation management. It also requires multi- 和 cross-disciplinary approaches that brings together plant scientists, 生态学家, 大气科学家, 地理学家, 心理学家, 社会学家, business 和 management researchers 和 educators to address the overarching challenge of securing our own 和 the planet’s future.
